2 Fully-funded PhD or Postdoc positions in Computer Science / Human-Computer Interaction

The newly founded Computational Interaction Group at Saarland University, Saarland Informatics Campus, led by Prof. Dr. Anna Maria Feit, is looking for two highly motivated persons (f/m/d) to join as doctoral candidates or post-docs.

Topics

The research topic is flexible and we will jointly agree on it. Your interests should broadly be in the area of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and in particular in the application and development of computational methods for HCI problems. Specifically, we are looking for candidates to work on the following topics:

  • Interactive optimization methods for user interface design and adaptation
  • Computational methods and principles for online adaptation of interfaces (e.g. in VR/AR, gaze-aware interfaces, etc.)
  • Modeling user behavior in interaction with intelligent user interfaces

Requirements

A successful candidate holds an excellent Master’s / doctoral degree in computer science or an area related to the described topics, such as electrical engineering, data science, cognitive science, psychology etc.
Additionally, he/she/they has

  • strong technical competencies in at least one of the following areas:
    Optimization / Operations Research, Machine Learning, Data Analysis / Modeling
  • excellent programming and software development skills (e.g. Python, Java, C++, C#, , Matlab etc.)
  • experience in one of the following areas is a plus:
    VR / AR development (C#, Unity, etc.), eye tracking, web- and database development (Javascript, PHP, SQL, AWS), experimental methods and user studies, drones
  • can communicate fluently in English and has excellent writing and presentation skills

Position

We offer a fully funded PhD researcher position. The start date is flexible, latest by January 2023. Salaries are internationally competitive, based on state employee’s salary scheme TV-L E 13 (100%). They include health insurance, social insurance and contributions to the retirement pension plan. The successful candidate will be enrolled at the Saarbrücken Graduate School of Computer Science.

The Computational Interaction group is a highly ambituous, young research group publishing at top-tier conferences and journals in the area of Human-Computer Interaction and related (e.g. CHI, UIST, TOCHI, …). As the group leader, I strive to create a research environment that is both ambitious and motivating, but also healthy and inclusive. I will fully commit to advise and support you throughout your different career stages. In addition to working on and publishing groundbreaking research, you will have the opportunity to advise undergraduate and graduate students and contribute to the teaching activities of our group.
